How a week looks
A hybrid rhythm built for working professionals and full-time students alike.

There is no fixed timetable. You book your own lab sessions β anytime. The lab is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and every step is guided by the SMERT AI copilot with round-the-clock AI support. The 20 hours a week flex around your job or your studies.
Program two Huayan E15 Pro arms and their HRC10 control systems. Calibrate RealSense depth cameras, mount the DH Robotics gripper and LinkerHand L20 hands, and learn safe cell setup.
Use LLM agents the way SMERT engineers actually do: natural-language robot control, vision pipelines, digital-twin simulation, voice workflows β plus security (SOC 2) and commercial labs woven in.
12 weeks, lab slots any time of day or night β you pick. Remote-friendly coding block. Missed a session? Catch up on the twin before the next lab day.
The equipment you will use
Every item below was received and photographed at our Austin Avenue lab. Students move from safe setup and calibration to perception, teleoperation and applied task design.
14/F Foo Hoo Centre, 3 Austin Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong

Motion & safety
Learn first power-up, teach-pendant control, tool frames, guarded motion and commissioning with the HRC10 control systems.

Dexterous manipulation
Work with the delivered hand pair, wrist interfaces and the DH Robotics PGC-140 gripper. Finger control and grasp validation are course workβnot pre-claimed outcomes.

Teleoperation
Capture demonstrations, study operator-to-cobot workflows and build supervised teleoperation experiments with the complete wearable kit.

Vision & edge AI
Calibrate two D435i mast cameras and two D405 wrist cameras, then run perception work on enclosed Plink Orin NX computers. AGX Orin stays lab-only; Orin Nano is a spare.

Applied care scenarios
Prototype supervised assistance routines around articulated manikins. They are training aids, not evidence of clinical validation.

Bimanual practice
Break a familiar, multi-step task into perception, reach, handling and safety exercises under instructor supervision.
In the TST lab
Photographed, inventoried hardware
Newton Module 1 passed
E15 Pro + L20 model, 29 bodies / 29 joints
Next validation
Finger actuation and cube grasp in Modules 2β6
Isaac Sim, autonomous grasping, tactile control and sim-to-real deployment remain validation work.

Never learn alone
The SMERT AI copilot walks you through each lab procedure β from first boot to calibration to deployment β so you are never stuck staring at a machine.
Ask anything at any hour. Our AI assistant answers instantly, seven days a week β in the lab or from home.
Weekly check-ins with SMERT engineers review your progress, unblock the hard parts, and prepare you for the capstone.
The AI stack you build with
Eight hours a week are spent building with the same AI toolchain our engineers use in production β app builders, coding agents, open-weight models and realtime voice.
Lovable
Your main build tool β where most of your 8 weekly AI-coding hours are spent: operator dashboards, customer apps and admin panels
Rork
Build the mobile companion app for on-site capture and control
Claude
Pair-programming agent for motion scripts, ROS nodes and code review
ChatGPT
Reasoning, debugging and documentation across the whole toolchain
Qwen
Open-weight coding model β runs on our own GPU for private workloads
Kimi
Long-context analysis of vendor manuals, datasheets and safety standards
GitHub Copilot
Inline completion and PR review inside the SMERT OS repositories
ElevenLabs
Give your cobot a voice β realtime speech for patient and guest interaction, in 74 languages with custom voice cloning
Higgsfield
Generate marketing video for your cobot deployments and translate/dub it into every market language
Gemini
Multimodal scene understanding β powers our scan-to-twin fixture extraction
Hugging Face
Pull, fine-tune and deploy open models onto the Jetson edge box
Ultralytics YOLO
Train the object detector that tells the arm what to pick and where
ROS 2
Middleware for nodes, topics and motion planning on every cell
Three.js
Render and test your routine in the SMERT digital twin before it touches hardware
Supabase
Auth, database and edge functions behind the apps you deploy

Beyond engineering
A cell that works is only half the job. These integrated labs teach you to secure it, certify it, position it and sell it β the way SMERT does with real customers.
Deploy systems customers can trust
ISO 10218 Β· ISO/TS 15066 Β· CE
Make the market understand the value
Quote, pitch, close
Hands on real SMERT cases
Course projects use practical integration scenarios and the actual equipment installed in our Tsim Sha Tsui lab.
Voice-controlled assistance arm with AR-marker positioning for elderly and disability care facilities.
Precision pouring and tray handling with 2D vision β deployed in live F&B environments.
Depth-camera-guided box detection and stacking with DH Robotics adaptive grippers.
Newton GPU-physics workflow in progress: arm and hand model loading passed; grasping and sim-to-real remain to be validated.
Where this takes you
Integrators report long vacancies for engineers who can commission a cobot cell end-to-end. This programme is designed to build those skills β outcomes depend on your effort and the market.
System integrators across APAC are short of engineers who can commission cobot cells end-to-end.
Companies need people who can wire LLM agents and computer vision into physical operations.
Every installed cell needs calibration, maintenance and upgrades β recurring, defensible work.
Alumni may be invited to apply for SMERT sub-franchise territories, with training credit toward onboarding.
Hiring pathway: the top-performing participant of each cohort may be eligible to be considered for an interview for a paid R&D engineer position at smert.ai's Tsim Sha Tsui lab. Eligible engineering hires may be supported by the Hong Kong Government's Research Talent Hub (Innovation & Technology Fund), which subsidizes R&D salaries β up to HK$20,000/month for bachelor's, HK$23,000/month for master's, and HK$35,000/month for doctoral/PhD graduates, for up to 36 months. Eligibility is determined solely by the Hong Kong Government.

1. Education Ordinance (Cap. 279) β this is not a registered school. Under the Education Ordinance, a βschoolβ is an institution, organisation or establishment that provides an educational course to 20 or more persons during any one day, or 8 or more persons at any one time, and such an institution must be registered with the Permanent Secretary for Education before it operates. The Robotics & AI Intensive is deliberately capped at 5 participants per cohort, which is below both thresholds. It is therefore private, in-house industry training delivered at our own R&D lab β not a registered school β and no Education Bureau school registration is required. The seat cap is a compliance commitment, not a marketing figure: we do not exceed it.
2. Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance (Cap. 493) β no academic award. Cap. 493 regulates courses leading to a non-local academic award or professional qualification. This programme leads to neither. Participants who complete the programme receive a SMERT certificate of completion only. It is not a degree, diploma, academic credit, accredited qualification, professional licence or any award recognised under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework, and it does not confer student status.
3. Trade Descriptions Ordinance (Cap. 362) β outcomes are not guaranteed. Any reference on this page to careers, hiring, salaries, funding schemes, project results or business outcomes is illustrative and based on past or expected experience. It is not a promise, guarantee or offer of employment, income, government funding or commercial results. Eligibility for any government scheme is determined solely by the relevant Hong Kong authority.
4. Contracting entity and fees. The programme is provided by SMERT.AI Limited, a company incorporated in Hong Kong, at 14/F Foo Hoo Centre, 3 Austin Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Tuition, deposits, payment schedules, cancellation and refund handling are governed by the enrolment agreement issued on acceptance, which prevails over anything stated on this page.
